Solihull Job Club

Maggie founded Solihull Job Club in March 2009 when she observed the unemployment numbers in Solihull rise from 800 to 1800 over just a few months. Since then, along with other dedicated volunteers Jenny, Beryl, Trixie and Yvonne, Solihull Job Club has helped many job seekers get back into work.

Providing help with CVs, interview practice, competency questions, job search advice and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits, the job club provides an informal environment where job seekers can meet, share experiences and help each other.

Solihull Job Club meets every Monday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the John Palmer Hall, Union Road, Solihull B91 3DA. All job seekers welcome.

Maggie's Pen4Life

Thanks to the generosity of Solihull residents, Maggie Throup has delivered thousands of pens to school children in Rwanda as a result of her ‘Pen4Life’ project. Children in Rwanda can only go to school if they have a pen. When the pen runs out, their family has a choice – another pen or a meal that day. Of course the food usually wins.

Maggie commented: “The delight and excitement of the children when they saw the boxes full of pens was amazing and I am so pleased I managed to get the pens to them.” Maggie’s Pen4Life project does not stop with her visit this week, she will be collecting pens well into the future. She added: “I now have found a group of local people who fill a container with goods for Rwanda approximately once a year, so I will be putting my pens in their container for future shipments.”
