Thanks to the generosity of Solihull residents, Maggie Throup has delivered thousands of pens to school children in Rwanda as a result of her ‘Pen4Life’ project.
Children in Rwanda can only go to school if they have a pen. When the pen runs out, their family has a choice – another pen or a meal that day. Of course the food usually wins.
Maggie commented: “The delight and excitement of the children when they saw the boxes full of pens was amazing and I am so pleased I managed to get the pens to them.”
Maggie’s Pen4Life project does not stop with her visit this week, she will be collecting pens well into the future. She added: “I now have found a group of local people who fill a container with goods for Rwanda approximately once a year, so I will be putting my pens in their container for future shipments.”
