 | Trust Board Quizzed |
 |
Health Watchdog and prospective Conservative MP Maggie Throup will quiz the Solihull Care Trust at tomorrow’s Board meeting, asking for evidence that a full risk assessment has been carried out on the wider safety issues for mothers and babies when Solihull’s maternity services are downgraded.
Ms Throup said: “The Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust has used safety as the reason for downgrading Solihull’s Maternity Service; however I am concerned that full consideration has not been made for the safety of mums and babies who experience problems during what is meant to be a normal birth.
“Data shows that up to 25% of mums who are booked to give birth at a midwife-led unit experience complications and have to be transferred to a consultant-led unit during labour.
“I fear that the proposed changes could put mums and babies at more risk and call for the Care Trust to block the changes.”
