In response to the many requests from local residents, Conservatives have revealed plans to give powers to local councils to stop the unpopular ‘garden grabbing’.
Conservatives believe in allowing local communities to create ‘bottom-up’ local plans, helping local residents to shape and protect the characters of their neighbourhood.
To strengthen these plans, Conservatives have promised to abolish arbitrary Whitehall density targets, reverse the classification of gardens as brownfield sites and allow local councils to stop ‘garden grabbing’.
Maggie Throup, who has been at the forefront of many campaigns to stop the ‘garden grabbing’ across Solihull said: “The plans to reclassify gardens so they are no longer brownfield sites as well as giving councils the powers to stop the unwanted ‘garden grabbing’ is really good news.
“I’m sure residents across Solihull will welcome these new proposals and see the benefits in helping to maintaining the character of our town.
“The many residents, including those like the Streetsbrook Road residents, who have campaigned so valiantly to stop the endless ‘garden grabbing’ can now see light at the end of the tunnel.”
