Maggie Throup, Solihull’s prospective MP has been successful in her long campaign to have a change in the law over phone masts. Under Conservative proposals in a new green paper the law is to be strengthened allowing local residents to have a say on where they go.
Speaking about her success, Maggie said: “This is great news as, at the moment, masts under 15m do not need planning permission, therefore leaving local residents out of the decision making process. Time after time, I hear first hand how residents are concerned about the location of mobile phone within their communities.
“I have been fighting hard for a change in the law - under new Conservative proposals all masts will need full planning permission, allowing individuals and families a greater say where they go.
“We all want to be able to use a mobile phone, but this doesn’t mean masts should be constructed without any regard for the well-being of local people – this is why the Conservatives have pledged to review any health concerns in light of scientific developments.
“I will be continuing to support local residents over planning issues, whether it is protecting our precious green spaces, standing up against the garden grabbers or fighting against mobile phone masts.”
