Breaston residents have a good reason to celebrate now they have learnt that the village is no longer under threat from the HS2 Hub.
Campaign leader and local Member of Parliament Maggie Throup received the news from HS2Ltd Chairman Sir David Higgins and was able to pass on the good news to the Action Group set up to stop the hub.
Maggie said: “Breaston was just the wrong place for the HS2 hub as it would have destroyed the Greenbelt and the floodplain would have also caused issues.
“The message I received from Sir David indicated that Breaston was no longer being considered as a potential site for the hub and that the focus was now back on Toton.
“Whilst this is a great relief to Breaston residents, it does not relieve the stress put on a number of Long Eaton residents and businesses who will be affected by the HS2 route to Toton.
“I am working very closely with those affected to ensure they get timely and adequate compensation and can move on with their lives.”
