Erewash MP Maggie Throup has confirmed that her meeting with Social Care Minister Marcus Jones MP to discuss the proposed closure of Hazelwood care home will take place on Wednesday 15th November 2017.
Maggie will urge the Minister to work in partnership with Derbyshire County Council to find an alternative solution to closing the Cotmanhay based care home. She will also present her proposals for the phased refurbishment of Hazelwood, to ensure that the home remains safe and warm for residents.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Maggie said:
“Hazelwood is the last remaining local authority care home in Ilkeston and in my view, it should not be closed under any circumstance.
“For far too long Labour underinvested in social care right across Derbyshire and now the cracks are beginning to show. It is therefore deeply regrettable that they have now chosen to play politics with such an important issue, rather than work constructively to save Hazelwood.
“When I meet with the Minister next Wednesday, I will be making the case for a phased programme of refurbishment of the home, which includes the recommissioning of Gold Wing. This would see the number of beds at Hazelwood increase, ensuring that even more people can be cared for closer to their loved ones.”
