Local residents have until Friday 25th August to sign a community petition to reinstate the number 23 bus route, before it is presented to The House of Commons for their consideration by Erewash MP Maggie Throup.
Until July the No. 23 bus served communities in both Cotmanhay and Kirk Hallam, when it was merged with the number 21 by operator Trent Barton. The changes have now made it much harder for residents to access vital services such as Ilkeston Community Hospital.
Speaking about the petition, Maggie said:
“There has already been a fantastic response to the petition and I hope that the amount of public support demonstrates to Trent Barton just how important it is to reinstate this service as soon as possible.
“Residents have until 25th August to sign the petition which is available in my Community office, after which I will again write to the directors of Trent Barton and then formally submit the petition to the House of Common.”
Petition sheets are available for Erewash residents to sign in Maggie’s Community Office, Unit 2 The Old Co-Op, South Street, Ilkeston, which is open weekdays from 9am-5pm and on Wednesdays from 10am-6pm.
