Local Erewash Member of Parliament, Maggie Throup has started a petition to save the No. 23 bus route which is under threat from new proposals by the bus operators TrentBarton.
The No. 23 bus currently serves Cotmanhay, including Church Street and Nelson Street, as well as Kirk Hallam. This bus service allows for many elderly residents to access Ilkeston town centre and the Community Hospital. With these changes it will become harder for residents to access extremely important services.
Maggie said:
“The proposed changes to the route will mean that the residents living on and around Church Street and Nelson Street will now have to walk to either Cotmanhay Road or Heanor Road to catch the bus.
“I feel very strongly about these proposed changes and have now written twice to TrentBarton on behalf of the numerous residents who have contacted me about this issue.
“As I haven't had a satisfactory response, I have now started a petition to save the No. 23 bus route.”
If you would like to see the proposed changes to the No. 23 bus route stopped, you can drop into Maggie’s Community Office on South Street, Ilkeston, DE7 5SG and sign her petition.
Maggie will then hand in this petition to Parliament to save the No. 23.
