Erewash’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Maggie Throup took the opportunity to make sure Long Eaton residents’ concerns about HS2 are taken all the way to the top.
Having the ear of the Prime Minister’s top advisor in the town, Maggie showed Rt Hon John Hayes MP the potential problems the HS2 Hub may cause by closing level crossings, so adding to the all ready congested town.
Ms Throup said: “I showed Mr Hayes first hand the problems the outline plans will cause and how closing routes through our town will cause even more traffic chaos, something just unacceptable for residents.
“Whilst I welcome the jobs and extra connectivity the HS2 Hub will bring, there must also be some gain for Long Eaton.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get the investment in secondary infrastructure that Long Eaton so desperately needs. Let’s get it right this time, allowing the people of Long Eaton congestion free journeys.
“With our area being at the heart of the track and rail industry, the whole project could really be of benefit to us. However we must look for solutions such as new routes and wider road bridges to make sure there is gain as well as pain.
“I’m also determined to make sure people affected will get a fair compensation deal.
“I’ve asked Mr Hayes to raise the issue with the Secretary of State for Transport as well as the Prime Minister and I’m confident we can have a satisfactory outcome long term.”
