Local residents Maggie Throup and Andy McCandless hit the trail on a tandem on Sunday to raise money for Treetops Hospice.
Taking part in the Tour de Treetops sponsored bike ride being held in conjunction with the Vintage Fayre, Maggie and Andy decided to ride ‘the Tour’ on a tandem, hoping to raise even more money for Treetops.
Maggie, who is also the prospective Conservative MP for Erewash said: “I’m a keen cyclist so I thought the Tour de Treetops would be a great way for me to raise money for this local charity.
“But I also realised that cycling the route on a tandem mirrors the work of the hospice. Every day volunteers and staff at the hospice are working in tandem with those in need of their care.”
Draycott resident Andy added: “I’m sure we’ve raised more money for Treetops by taking up the challenge of riding on a tandem. This was the first time I’d ridden a tandem but it was lots of fun and created a great deal of interest on the way.”
