Erewash MP Maggie Throup has thanked local residents for sticking to Coronavirus restrictions, as levels of the virus continue to fall across Erewash.
This follows Maggie’s public awareness campaign launched in March in response to concerning data that saw Erewash record some of the highest case numbers anywhere in Derbyshire.
Speaking about the reduction in the incidence of Covid, Maggie said:
“Since launching my campaign back in March to address the worryingly high rates of COVID circulating in our community, I am pleased that we have made excellent progress in driving down community transmission and my thanks go out to everyone for playing their part.
“Together with the continued successful rollout of our national vaccination programme, the collective effort that local residents have made over the past month has clearly had an impact on the data and should be celebrated.
“However we must now take the next steps safely and as we move forward with the Roadmap for unlocking society it is vital we all remain vigilant, keep to the rule of six or two households outdoors, rejecting the temptation to bend, stretch or break the rules and by remembering the key message of HANDS, FACE, SPACE AND FRESH AIR when meeting others.”
Speaking about the importance of community testing, Maggie said:
“Community testing continues to be a key weapon in our fight against the virus and, following discussions with Derbyshire’s Director of Public Health, I have secured a pop-up COVID testing centre in Ilkeston which is open until Friday 23rd April.
“This is available for all residents who are not displaying symptoms of Coronavirus, is between 9pm and 5pm Monday to Friday, and is based at the EMH Group Car Park, Longfield House, Hallam Fields Road, Ilkeston, DE7 4BR. There is no booking is required, so just turn up at a time convenient to you.
“The pop-up is in addition to the testing centres at West Park Leisure Centre, Long Eaton and Wilmot Street Centre, Heanor, which are both open 7 days a week from 7.45am to 7pm, and I want to encourage all residents to make use of these facilities.”
