Local MP Maggie Throup has reaffirmed her commitment to fighting for the best deal from HS2 for the residents of Long Eaton, Sandiacre and Stanton Gate during her first speech of the new Parliament.
Speaking in the Queens Speech Debate on jobs and the economy Maggie said:
“It is now important that we all work together to get the best deal for the constituencies affected. It is my responsibility as the local Member of Parliament to work with the Government, HS2 Ltd and my constituents - they are the most important people in this—to ensure that we grasp every opportunity, including on inward investment, regeneration and jobs.”
Following the debate Maggie added:
“We cannot escape the fact that HS2 is coming to Erewash. What I want to focus on is getting the best deal for local people. Residents have waited far too long for answers and I believe it is now imperative that we get both a swift decision on the final route design and secure a better compensation package than is currently being offered to those people who will lose their homes as a consequence.
“During the election I made a commitment to facilitate a public meeting where residents will have the opportunity to question key stakeholders about their plans for the project to make sure they are left in no doubt what we in Erewash want to see from this major infrastructure project. I currently working to put this meeting together and look forward to announcing further details in the near future.”
