Erewash MP Maggie Throup joined the Minister of State for Care, Caroline Dinenage, to launch the Red Bag Scheme, at a recent event in Parliament.
The Hospital Transfer Pathway, often known as ‘Red Bag’ is a simple initiative that is helping to improve communication between care homes and hospitals at all points of the resident’s journey. It keeps important information about a care home resident's health in one place, easily accessible to ambulance and hospital staff. This facilitates a smoother and more efficient handover between care home, ambulance and hospital staff, and reduces unnecessary delays in the patient journey.
Speaking about the scheme, Maggie said:
“This is a simple but effective resource which significantly improves the patient pathway from care home to hospital and visa-versa.
“I was delighted to join the Care Minister to launch the scheme and find out more about how the Red Bags are already making a difference to both patients and staff.
“I have always believed in sharing best practice across health and social care, and so I hope that this is something that can now be exported across the country, including to care homes and hospitals serving residents in Erewash.”
