Local Erewash MP, Maggie Throup, visited the SUBWAY® store in Long Eaton ahead of the new government policy announcements to tackle Childhood Obesity.
As a member of the House of Common’s Health Committee and Chair of All Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity, Maggie was keen to see how SUBWAY® stores provide healthier menu options to over 3 million customers each week, including in Long Eaton. The SUBWAY® brand is the only Quick Service Restaurant brand to have endorsed all eight nutrition-related Responsibility Deal Pledges set by the Department of Health. Maggie took the opportunity during her visit to make her own nutritious lunch, sampling the Kids’ Pak™ which provides 2 of the recommended five-a day* and the Low Fat Subs range.
Maggie Throup commented, “I really enjoyed visiting the Long Eaton SUBWAY® stores and meeting Development Agent Rachana Pancholi and her local team. The SUBWAY® brand has made huge strides in reformulating its food options to ensure that their many customers have healthier options to choose from and I hope the industry follows their leading example.”
The store is one of two in the Erewash constituency represented by Maggie, which collectively employ around 20 people. The SUBWAY® brand is looking forward to the publication of the Government’s forthcoming Childhood Obesity strategy.
