Her Majesty the Queen has today (Monday 14th October 2019) officially opened the new session of Parliament, delivering a speech setting out the Government’s legislative programme for the forthcoming year.
Erewash MP Maggie Throup welcomed the speech, saying:
“Today’s Queens’s Speech set out a positive new vision for the future of our great Country.
“At its forefront, is a determination to finally get Brexit over the line by 31st October, so that we can move on to focus on the priorities that really matter to people like those living and working in Erewash.
“This means investing more in our police, schools and NHS, strengthening our armed forces, reforming the immigration system, bringing down the cost of living and protecting our environment.
“I share Boris Johnson’s view that our best days still lie ahead, and this ambitious legislative agenda should be seen as a roadmap of how the Government he leads will deliver a brighter future for both Erewash and Great Britain.”
