It remains my view that the Prime Minister is the best person to lead our country.
The challenge of leaving the European Union is undoubtedly the hardest task that any British Prime Minister has undertaken in our recent history. However, Theresa May’s deep sense of public duty combined with her tenacious approach to securing the best outcome for the whole of our United Kingdom makes her the only person for the job.
To hold a leadership contest now at such a crucial moment for our Country would be irresponsible and risks delaying or even stopping Brexit. This is not a risk I am prepared to take.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister’s unique ability to conduct these complex negotiations, whilst also continuing to pursue a radical domestic agenda, demonstrates the strength of her leadership. For these reasons the Prime Minister has, and will continue to have my full support.
