Last week saw a surprise visitor to Erewash when Boris Johnson, Mayor of London came to town. He accompanied Prospective MP Maggie Throup, visiting numerous shops, a café and a pub.
Maggie Throup said: “It was great Boris could come along and see for himself the variety of retail outlets we have in our towns, and at the same time back my campaign to shop locally this Christmas.”
Boris Johnson said: “It was a cold afternoon in Erewash but the reception I received from business owners was both really warm and enjoyable.
“I visited Ilkeston to talk about the de-predestination of Bath Street which is part of Maggie Throup’s plan for building a better future for Erewash.
“It is a really innovative campaign by Maggie and I believe if done in the right way can bring some great economic benefits to Ilkeston.
“Long Eaton has a fantastic industrial history around the lace trade and it was an education learning more about the town through Maggie.
“I want Long Eaton to continue to boom as a centre of business and shopping and that is why I am backing the ‘Shop Local’ campaign along with Maggie.
“It has the potential to bring a real boost to small businesses and shops on the High Street and elsewhere in the town which is a great thing.”
