This week in Parliament, I participated in the final day of the debate following the Budget that was delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP, last week.
During my speech, I praised the Chancellor for providing £5 million of investment in Erewash to support cultural projects. I hope that we can use this exciting opportunity to build on and expand existing cultural facilities and preserve more of our cultural heritage for future generations.
I also welcomed the headline measures in the Budget aimed at boosting productivity, including the changes made to child benefit, which will see over 170,000 families gain around £1260.00 in income support and the further cut to National Insurance which means that the average person in work will now save over £900.00.
The Chancellor delivered a sensible, balanced Budget that targets productivity, rewards those who have worked their entire lives, and provided further investment in communities like Erewash.
