This week in Parliament, I was pleased to attend the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Action Week event.
Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. A dementia diagnosis is vital in giving people access to the care, treatment and support they desperately need. Yet, incredibly, 1 in 3 people with dementia do not have a diagnosis.
At the event, I learnt that the dementia diagnosis rate in Erewash is 79.4 per cent which is higher than England’s average of 64.8 per cent. Although this is encouraging, there is still more work to do to further increase the diagnosis rates across Erewash. That is why I am backing the Alzheimer’s Society’s campaign to improve dementia diagnosis rates across the country.
More information about Dementia Action Week can be found on the Alzheimer’s Society’s website here.
