One of the roles I find most rewarding as a Member of Parliament is inspiring the next generation of Erewash students to get involved in politics. Before the Easter break, I had the pleasure of welcoming a group of school children from Dovedale Primary School to Parliament.
After the pupils’ tour of Parliament, I met them at the UK Parliament Education Centre, where they were learning about the Suffragettes who had fought for the right of women to vote in the UK. The school children then quizzed me about my role as an MP and like me, they are pleased that the Government is tackling smoking and vaping.
To help the pupils understand more about Parliament and my work as an MP, I gave them an Order Paper, two Hansards featuring my recent speeches on Tackling Obesity and Digital Exclusion as well as a copy of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.
I’d like to thank Dovedale Primary School for visiting me in Parliament and I hope the pupils had a fantastic day in London.
