Maggie Throup, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Erewash is urging local schools to get involved in a new road safety competition.
The RAC has teamed up with the Department for Transport and Aardman Animations to launch a national road safety campaign calling for zero tolerance of child deaths on Britain’s roads.
Aardman, which created the popular characters Wallace and Gromit, has also developed a new mascot called Horace to spearhead the campaign.
Ms Throup said: “This competition is a fun and entertaining way of getting out the serious message about road safety.
“Despite the number of children injured or killed on our roads falling over recent years, any death or injury is one too many. I want to help make sure our roads throughout the constituency are some of the safest in the country.
“I’m encouraging schools to participate in this new initiative to help save lives and, at the same time, develop creative skills.”
Any school wishing to participate can contact Ms Throup on 07919 687556 or email her at maggie@maggiethroup.com for more information. Information can also be found online at www.rac.co.uk/community/road-safety-champions
