Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. Sadly 144 men are diagnosed every day with this deadly disease.
Earlier diagnosis of prostate cancer increases the likelihood of better treatment outcomes. Currently, there is no formal screening programme for prostate cancer in the UK, with men required to ask for tests - this can be life changing.
In the Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care System the prostate cancer mortality rate is 49 per 100,000 people, this is higher than England’s average of 44 per 100,000. Implementing a national screening programme could save thousands of lives.
In Parliament, I was pleased to pledge my support to increasing and improving access to prostate cancer testing. I am also backing the calls for the swift delivery of a screening programme for this deadly condition in the UK.
