Erewash MP Maggie Throup reecenly visited the head office of Children 1st Day Nursery in Long Eaton before visiting Children 1st @ Derby Road.
The visit was prompted in response to Margaret Mason receiving an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Maggie had written to Margaret to pass on her congratulations and Margaret then invited Maggie to visit Children 1st and meet the team.
Maggie’s visit provided the opportunity for informal discussions about the challenges and opportunities within the nursery sector and to see outstanding nursery provision in action at Children 1st @ Derby Road.
Margaret, along with Nursery Manager Kate Horsley, Senior Manager Heather Mayfield and Director Julia Mason provided the tour, during which Maggie was keen to meet the staff and chat to the children who proudly shared their activities.
Maggie was keen to get involved in the fun of nursery life and seemed impressed with the free-flowing nature of the nursery provision which provides choice and promotes independence. Commenting on the visit Maggie said:
“It’s a privilege to meet companies in Erewash who are leading the way in their sector and provide exemplars of excellence at a local and national level. I have found the visit very informative and it’s been lovely to meet such dedicated professionals and wonderful children.”
Margaret who has been overwhelmed by the countless messages of congratulations resulting from the OBE award said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Maggie to Children 1st and I appreciate her taking time from her busy schedule to spend time with us. I think it’s important for MPs to meet with businesses so they gain an understanding the issues being faced and also share the many joys!”
