Maggie Throup, Erewash’s Prospective Conservative MP and ex-NHS worker has spoken out in support of extended opening hours at GP surgeries in both Ilkeston and Long Eaton.
Maggie said: “As a result of a successful bid to the Prime Minister’s Challenge Fund, local Erewash GPs are now able to implement longer opening hours at their surgeries, ensuring local people can get to see their GPs when they need.
“This is because the Conservative-led Government is increasing NHS spending by £12.7 billion in cash terms this Parliament, despite Labour’s Health Spokesman saying that our decision to protect NHS funding was ‘irresponsible’.
“Our NHS is to be valued and protected. The difficult decisions the Government has taken to deal with Labour’s deficit have allowed us to protect the NHS budget and so provide additional funding such as that gained by our local GPs.”
