Erewash MP Maggie Throup has questioned the motives behind the hastily-arranged public meeting about Corporation Road traffic, organised by a Labour Councillor just weeks before the Borough elections which take place on 2nd May.
Maggie, who has worked closely with residents and campaigners to find a long-term solution to the traffic problems, which include speeding, commented:
“On the face of it, this public meeting looks like a cynical attempt to win votes.
“Together with the local Conservative team in Hallam Fields, I have been working hard to persuade Derbyshire County Council to address the problems of HGV traffic and speeding.
“In addition, I have also run a large-scale residents survey to evidence the concerns and have raised the issue directly with Ministers at the Department for Transport.
“Sadly, when I convened a site visit to Corporation Road with Cllr Frudd and the then Labour-County Council, they refused to take action and dismissed residents’ concerns out of hand.
“The community in Hallam Fields can therefore quite rightly question Cllr Frudd’s motives; they want actions not just empty words.”
