Following an historic 18 months in which the Lionesses have become Euro champions and World Cup finalists there has been a transformational growth in girls’ football.
To coincide with International Women’s Day, a record-breaking 465,000 girls from 5000 schools across England took part in the Football Association (FA) and Barclays’ third Biggest Ever Football Session, as part of the Let Girls Play campaign. The Let Girls Play campaign was launched in October 2021 to support the FA’s strategic ambition to provide girls with equal access to football.
Nine schools across Erewash took part in the Let Girls Play Biggest Ever Football Session. A list of participating schools can be found below:
- Brooklands Primary School
- Dallimore Primary and Nursery School
- Dovedale Primary School
- Ladywood Primary School
- St Laurence Primary School
- Ashbrook Junior School
- Cotmanhay Junior School
- Hallam Field Junior School
- Kensington Junior School
It was fantastic to see so many local schoolgirls take part in the football sessions when I visited Dallimore Primary School and the group activity held at Kirk Hallam Academy. I hope that through this event more girls across Erewash will take up football and one day in the future we might see one representing England.
