A charity benefited from the Conservatives coming to Birmingham for their annual conference when a group of Tories carried out a social action project ahead of the event.
Maggie Throup and other local campaigners got their spades, forks and hammers out to renovate a garden and build a chicken run.
This was to help Welcome, a charity based in Chelmsley Wood, which ensures that anyone living or working locally whose drug or alcohol use has become problematic has easy access to the treatment and support services they need to help them through to recovery and on towards rebuilding their lives.
Maggie said: “Social action is an important part of the Conservative agenda. It’s lots of fun and so worthwhile. I was particularly pleased to be able to help Welcome this year as I know just what amazing work it does.
“It was great to see the garden and the vegetable plot transformed over the two days and know that the service users will really benefit from our efforts. It was also good to work with the service users and learn more about the work that Welcome does.”
