Erewash MP Maggie Throup has written to Derbyshire County Council on behalf of local residents, to urge them to take action to avoid a repeat of roadworks that have brought large parts of Long Eaton to a standstill.
Speaking about the ongoing problem, Maggie said:
“As we all know, Long Eaton already suffers from significant congestion at peak times, and so the addition of roadworks at four separate locations at the same time within the town has resulted in complete traffic gridlock.
“This is unacceptable and so I have written to Cllr Simon Spencer, the Cabinet Member responsible for highways at Derbyshire County Council, to demand action be taken.
“Whilst I understand that these works are being undertaken by utility companies and not by the County Council, the Council will have been involved in scheduling the works and approving temporary road restrictions.
“I have therefore asked Cllr Spencer to update me on what action is being taken to minimise the disruption to residents and have urged him to reconsider how roadworks in Long Eaton are scheduled going forward to avoid a repeat of this situation.”
