Maggie Throup OBE MP, Member of Parliament for Erewash, recently questioned the Rail Minister, Huw Merriman MP, about what the Government is doing to help save jobs, including in the supply chain, at Alstom’s Derby site.
Since Alstom announced that it will consult employees and unions about potential job losses at its Derby site, Maggie has been working tirelessly to support Erewash residents who work for Alstom or are part of its important supply chain.
The Government has since been in negotiations with Alstom officials to explore options to enable them to continue manufacturing trains at their Derby site. During an Urgent Parliamentary Question, Maggie urged the Rail Minister to take action to ensure all workers, including temporary and those in the supply chain, are protected.
Maggie said:
I know just how important our train manufacturing industry and the jobs it provides to Erewash is. The situation at Alstom is of great concern to Erewash residents who work there and even more so for those who work in the supply chain.
I am pleased that the Rail Minister confirmed to me in the House of Commons that the Government is working to find a solution with Alstom to protect all jobs – including those who work in the supply chain.
I hope a solution can be reached soon and that this message reassures those affected across Erewash that the Government is on their side.”
