As the deadline looms for submissions to the independent Boundary Commission in response to their proposals to rename the Erewash Parliamentary Constituency, local MP, Maggie Throup is calling on residents who have yet to submitted their views, to do so as soon as possible on the dedicate page of her website (https://www.maggiethroup.com/parliamentary-boundary-review-2023).
Under the review, whilst the boundaries of the Erewash Constituency would remain unchanged, the Commission has recommended that its name be changed to ‘Ilkeston and Long Eaton’ in order to ‘reflect the main population centres of the constituency’.
This Commission’s proposal would not affect the name of the Borough of Erewash.
Commenting on the proposed renaming of the constituency, Maggie said:
“I am immensely proud to serve my community as the fifth Member of Parliament for Erewash and personally do not wish to see its name changed.
“It is therefore important that we can put forward a robust case to the independent Boundary Commission as to why the name ‘Erewash’ should be retained and the data gathered from this survey will play a crucial role in helping me to make this case on behalf of local residents.”
Maggie’s Boundary Review Survey will close to new submissions at midnight on Sunday 25th July 2021.
